Choose the right caravan for you and you’re halfway there

Once you’ve purchased your caravan, which you can do via Park-Resorts using its used caravan sales link, you can then spend some time thinking about how you’d like it to be kitted out. Just as with your home you can choose the colour scheme, the layout and the type of kitchen and bathroom units you want. Once the layout, colour scheme and kitchen design are sorted, the fun really begins.

Get comfy and have fun

You caravan should feel like a home away from home, so start with some family photos, ornaments and decorations that remind you of home. Next add the soft touches, such as curtains, rugs, cushions and throws. No doubt you’ll want to install an entertainment system too. Take some of your favourite DVDs and some DVD games or games consoles for when the weather is miserable. These will help you feel as if you’re right back in your living room at home.

Stock up

No one really wants to cook when they’re on holiday and just because the place is your own doesn’t mean you want to spend time slaving over a hot stove. So make sure you’re stocked up on ingredients that allow you to rustle up a feast in under 30 minutes. Also keep some treats and snacks tucked away too, so you can relax and avoid the supermarket.

Sleep tight

Although this may be your home away from home, you might find you don’t sleep as well as you do in your own bed. You have more chance of getting decent shuteye if you have the same sheets, duvets and pillows as you do at home. Don’t scrimp with the polyester stuff if at home you use duck down. Use like for like to really get the best night’s sleep.

One place I have recently discovered is any kind of store that sells equipment for people that work out of doors. We have one here in New Westminster that sells rubber boots for fishermen (they are amazingly good!) as well as all kinds of rugged boots for construction workers and inexpensive tarps and rain gear that will help keep you dry.

Another great source is the Army & Navy supply store, which often sells all kinds of equipment for camping at great prices. It won’t be fancy stuff, but it will be sturdy and will always work well. These two places are great for general equipment for camping, but if you need anything specific, I have always found that looking online is a great place to start.

Surprisingly, I recently discovered that Amazon has some great prices, if you know how to look. Here is a good example of a few things I found at a 70% discount that had great reviews and in my estimation were all equipment for camping that I could use. The first is a GSI Outdoors 79480 Collapsible Java Drip Coffee Maker I find this invaluable for making good coffee and yet not taking up all kinds of space. I am always fighting the need for less gear when I go camping. Another cool little item is this little flint fire starter that you can just add to your keychain!

So you see, there are all kinds of places to look for equipment for camping that doesn’t have to cost you and arm and a leg. So maybe this winter, you can do like me and dream of great places to go camping when the weather gets better, and pick out a couple of great and inexpensive pieces of equipment for camping that you know will make the experience that much better when you go. For those of us who live in the big city, one of the true joys of summer is the ability to have a quick weekend get-away. It doesn’t have to be anything really fancy, a tent and the one you love can be quite enough for many. Luckily even if you aren’t the rough outdoor type, tenting with a sweetheart can make an overnight adventure a time of romance. So grab a few bits of great camping equipment, and come out to the great outdoors.

It doesn’t really matter if you are a family of car campers, a couple of serious mountain hikers or one very intense wilderness hiker, this is the time of year to indulge in your heart’s desire. Of course, no matter what kind of a camper or hiker you are, you always need gear. And I always find myself spending more than I should, and wanting more than I think I can afford. So I have been up on the web looking for bargains, and I am more than happy to share them with everyone. Here is what I found:

First of all, you need some basic equipment like knives, lanterns and water containers. Here are a few I found that are all on sale, so get them now while they are still in stock! Of course, sometimes it is great when you find something online that you wouldn’t normally buy because it is more of a luxury, but it happens to be on sale.

I would call all of these items that kind of purchase. I don’t normally get something like a kit for a solar warmed shower, but man, at this price how can I not? I found a few items that fall under this category. I am sure there is something in here that you just know will make that next camping trip just a little more fun. So whatever your excuse for camping, let’s get all our cheap and not so cheap camping gear together and head out to the great outdoors just as soon as we can!

Boy- nothing tastes better than when you cook it over a fire or camp stove! Is it because you are outdoors all day and just hungrier or is there something almost magical about eating outdoors? I don’t know the answer, but I do know that have the right equipment makes a big difference in how much work it is to cook while camping. My Dad might have been perfectly happy making coffee in an old coffee tin on the fire, but I like my coffee with no ash for extra flavour – thank you!

Well, you can camp on a cot with blankets, my Mom always did when we went camping as kids. But for me, nothing is as cozy as rolling up in your sleeping bag and listening to the sounds of the great outdoors through your tent walls. I still remember sitting in my bag in my tent in the middle of a Michigan campsite, quiet and empty except for me and about a million fireflies!
